Spectacular surroundings make our course an unbeatable spot for practicing golf, boasting stunning views out to sea coupled with the mountain back backdrop
The Altea Golf Club was founded in 1974 by Luis Campomanes Asumendi, the same as part of the “El Aramo” Development Project, project that is located on the sides of the Sierra de Altea, buried deep between Sierra Bernia and the Mediterranean Sea, which of course contributes to its unquestionable beauty.
It is situated in the municipal term of Altea, Mediterranean location where the beauty of its ancient quarter and the special light of its atmosphere is to be highlighted, reason why the location has been chosen by numerous artists in order to carry out their work here. This special charm is what has led the Miguel Hernández
Altea
University to choose the location as the site for the Arts Campus and the Fine Arts Palace, with the UNESCO likewise having chosen Altea as an International Centre for Music.
Currently the course is owned by the Don Cayo Golf Club and its members, the same constituted as a non-profit sports association and entered at the Registry of Sports Entities of the Community of Valencia with number 4.139 of its first section. The Club is made up by members of up to 9 different nationalities, with Spanish, British, German, Dutch, Swiss or Norwegian being highlighted and it operates as a semi-private course, keeping its doors open to the public and with members and green-fee players co-existing.
The Club has always offered an emblematic path, since its very beginnings, attractive design of which and spectacular surroundings make our course an unbeatable spot for practising golf, a classic of the Costa Blanca, where most of the Alicante golfers started to play the game. However, since the course was more than 30 years old it was in need of a reform of its facilities, reform that started in the year 2004 with the remodelling of the Club House.
Undoubtedly the greatest challenge was posed by the golf course itself, hence in the year 2005 and once the club’s new needs had been defined, the improvement and modernisation plans for the facilities were drafted, in turn allowing the renovation process to start, resulting in a transformation of the path with the creation of two different rounds within our 9-hole course.
Thus on May 11 of 2006 the former president of the Golf Federation of the Community of Valencia, Pedro Barber Lloret, inaugurated the remodelling that had taken place, works of which have represented a tremendous effort and much dedication on the part of the entire club’s team.
This stage of changes currently continues with the complete renovation of the irrigation system, connection of a new water treatment plant, construction of two lakes within the course, as well as other minor improvement works such as repair of the paths, new gardening, conservation of the forest mass, etc., which despite not being of the same magnitude as all that described above, are likewise important.
