ABOUT US - Animals In Distress (A.I.D.) For many years we independently helped animals in England. We moved to the Costa del Sol in 1998 and helped animals whenever possible. A few years later we moved inland to Coin and became even more aware of the plight of so many animals.
In 2006 we started as fundraisers and worked with like-minded people to help the individual Foster homes and the small Rescue Centres that look after and home animals.
Due to the volume of Stray and Abandoned animals we became more involved in 2007 rescuing and homing animals and in early 2008 we became a registered charity No. 7974 - CIF Nº G92937002 . All the Dogs and Cats that are very young or sick are looked after by our volunteer private foster homes as well as in our own home in Coin, which also helps the animals get use to a family environment. in January 2017 we rented some land and buildings in Pizarra, Malaga, which is not far from our home and caters for about 50 of our adult dogs. See the shelter video in here: https://youtu.be/qT8WnoJ-v5Q Please note that we do not take in people’s own pets unless the situation is critical. Our mission is to try to find good secure homes for the stray, abandoned, abused animals that we look after as well as networking with other charities to find homes here and in other parts of Europe. When financially able we also try to help the individuals and small charities that are overloaded with animals and lack the funds, so we provide food and medical care.
We always try to home lost and abandoned dogs straight away. As this is not always possible, we then place the dog (if there’s room) in one our kind volunteer foster homes. Some of our foster homes are Coin, Alhaurin el Grande, Guaro, Benalmadena, Yunquera and Cartama.
All our animals have a health check and if applicable, they are Micro-Chipped, Vaccinated and neutered or castrated. We are sometimes limited to the number of animals we can help, but by co-ordinating with our connections here and in Europe we are doing our part to try to reduce the amount of stray and abandoned animals and the suffering in this part of Andalucia.
Our order of priority is:
1st. Home animals as soon as possible via our contacts and their friends.
2nd. Our kind Foster homes play an important part as they help us by giving shelter to an animal on quick short-term bases.
Our commitment:
•To help stray/abandoned animals whenever possible.
•To keep animals under our protection in a safe & clean environment.
•To make sure that all animals in our care comply with legislation.
•To have all animals in our care checked by a vet..
•To spay/castrate, vaccinate, microchip... where applicable.
•To find suitable owners for adoption in Spain and other countries.
•To educate society regarding domestic animals.
Dogs are desperate for help as there are so many abandoned. In Málaga province alone, around 12,000 animals are abandoned annually. It’s not possible to help everyone but we do our best to help as many animals as possible. Since we became a charity we have homed about 2000 animals.
We do not receive any type of government funding and donations from the public are far and few between. To meet the animal bills we raise funds by holding charity events and by selling donated goods in our Charity shop based in Alhaurin el Grande, which is run entirely by volunteers.
Our charity does not have any paying members and we are classified as ‘Animos sin lucro’, which means ‘intentions without profit’ in other words all the funds raised are used for helping the animals in one way or another and none of our shop volunteers or the charity committee, which includes ourselves takes a wage.
Help us to help the animals so that we can reduce the misery and death that we witness every day. Every animal that you adopt or foster is one less found dead on the road or one that will not end up in the dog pound (killing station). Sometimes situations can be resolved with just a little help. Our belief has always been the welfare of all animals and the care, safety and protection of them is our priority.
