Llevamos nueve años haciendo vacaciones en bici y esta ha sido una de nuestras mejores rutas de Ávila a Salamaca: lugares preciosos, tranquilos y una organización de viaje impecable. ¿Qué más puedo añadir? Original I can't speak highly enough of Senderos y Pueblos. My wife and I recently went on one of its cycle tours, and what an adventure! If you are looking for a tour that takes you deep into the culture of northern Spain while enjoying stunning scenery, you would do a lot worse than to choose the ride from Burgos to La Rioja.  It had all the right ingredients for us. There were splendid historical sites – from Burgos Cathedral at the start of the ride to the medieval town of Laguardia at the end, and the marvellous Yuso monastery in San Millán de la Cogolla at the halfway point. The natural world was spectacular, and included mountains, rivers, huge reservoirs, forests, vineyards of course … and the glorious sound of hundreds of cowbells filling the air. And the ride itself offered just the right amount of physical challenge – yes, there were hills, but none too tough to take the fun out of the holiday.  We have been learning Spanish for a few years, and it was a great opportunity to practise. Which is also a roundabout way of saying that this is an area where you will not find many people who speak fluent English. So come equipped with a few Spanish words and phrases!  If you do have good Spanish, it opens doors into a wonderful world. It was lovely to be joined by members of a local family as we enjoyed a drink in the packed town square at the town of Briones. Bizarrely, a cookery competition was being played out before us, and I had no idea what it was all about, but the family were able to explain – after telling us all about their own lives! These encounters make a holiday truly special.  As for the nitty-gritty of the holiday arrangements, we have only positive things to say. The accommodation was good at every stop – with the stay at the Hosteria in San Millán particularly memorable, not least for its enormous breakfast! The bikes were a shade heavy, but nonetheless were very good quality and totally reliable. And the maps, instructions and GPS software provided by Senderos y Pueblos were all spot-on, as were the arrangements it made throughout the tour bike drop-off/luggage transfer etc.  It was a glorious holiday – one that we really needed and were looking forward to for months. Now we just want to go back and do it all again!

We have always found the communication and service from Jaime and the team to be excellent. The self-guided cycling trips also offer good value for money in comparison with some of the bigger adventure travel companies. Even better with 10% discount for returning customers.  Our most recent trip was the Green Coast cycling trip in October 2022. We have also done the Sevilla to Cadiz and Extremadura Paradors Trips - also in October. We were a little concerned with the Green Coast climate being described as 'more British', but wanted to try somewhere different to the, more traditionally Spanish, hot and arid south we'd seen previously. We needn't have worried, the weather was still very warm in October, in the 20s with very mild nights too - so yes it rains more than the south and east of Spain, but is really not like the UK in October!  All three of the holidays we have done have been very well planned in terms of routes. A mix of lovely quiet back roads through stunning scenery and some bigger roads, necessary for visiting the bigger towns and cities.  The hotels have been very good and well picked. The Sevilla to Cadiz and Extremadura Paradors Trips offered really top notch hotels, the Spanish Paradors are something to behold, amazing, along with some idyllic rural retreats. The Green Coast accommodation was notably less luxurious but this is reflected in the price of the holiday - still perfectly fine.  The bikes have generally been excellent quality touring bikes some of which have been electric. I would say the Extremadura trip had the best bikes and the best hand-over service. The bike man even checked up on us during day one to confirm all was ok. The worst were the Green Coast bikes, which were quite old, tired and a bit dirty, with a very brief hand-over. The brake pads on my electric bike really should have been replaced, but to be fair, I chose to live with it, rather than spend time on my holiday getting it fixed which I'm confident they would have been if I raised the issue. This is really my only significant gripe from all three trips. Perhaps a better bike provider could be found for this trip.  If I were to try and pick one holiday above the others it would be tough... For the hotels, I would say Sevilla to Cadiz and Extremadura were best - worth the small extra cost. Ones that really stand out in my mind are the Paradors at Carmona, Cadiz and Plasencia and Carmens Finca in Monfrague. The hotel Chiqui in Santander was also very good on the Green Coast trip. For the weather in October Sevilla to Cadiz and Extremadura again are warm and dry usually which appeals to a Brit. For the over night destinations, Sevilla to Cadiz probably takes it. The old Andalucian cities were stunning, Extremadura again offered wonderful old towns, the Green coast towns were a little more none-descript - more about the journey than the destinations. For the routes - all three are excellent, the south offers more contrast to the UK and is more traditionally 'Spanish' in terms of scenery. The Green Coast is absolutely stunning in a green and mountainous way, with a lovely haze over the mountains. It almost felt sub tropical at times.  Other things to note: A little Spanish goes a long way on these trips so do make the effort to learn some - it's not a given that everyone will speak English. Due to Spain's frankly quite odd time zone, the evenings in October are still quite light too, which is nice. Meal times are matched to daylight hours - much later than in the UK. Don't be surprised to find no restaurants open at midday and to be sat on your own if you eat dinner before 9PM! You need to be pretty fit to enjoy all three holidays mentioned without an ebike. The miles and hills start to add up after several days.  Highly recommended.

We're not super fit, but cycle leisurely at home.  From the time we were picked up at the airport by a lovely guy called Miguel to our departure,  Away from the Crowd could not have been more helpful.  Fortunately we didn't have any major  incidences.  The bikes were great and very comfortable.  We thought they were a little bit heavy to start, but we got use to them and they were perfect for the terrain we were travelling on.  The guide book - once you paid attention to every instruction, it was nearly impossible to get lost.  We had completed a cycle a few years ago in Spain and got lost on a daily basis!  so this was a very clear instruction guide.   The accommodation was basic, but clean.  and some of our hotels were in idyllic settings, in particular, Olot and Les Planes d'Hosteles.  The company staff were always available at the end of a text or email if we had any queries.  Luggage was moved on daily without any issues.  And to make it even better, we had wonderful weather!  We give this a five star holiday.

The tour was very well arranged by thouroghly servicminded people, we had no problems.
