Glamping in giant tipis, tepees or teepees, depending on how you spell it, in the beautifully scenic province of Granada, in Andalucia, Spain.
Tipi Glamping in Spain was conceived after several years of my wife Barbara and I, looking for the ideal place to start a business in the sun. Funnily enough we had both tried camping a few times, long before we met and had agreed that sleeping on the ground or in an uncomfortable, saggy camp bed was not for us! Also, the long trek past rows of tents to basic, military-style shower blocks, carrying all our towels and toiletries, was not our idea of a lovely holiday!
We later heard about a new idea called 'glamping' short for glamorous camping! This concept totally appealed to us. Comfortable full sized beds, just like at home and a chest of drawers to store your clothes, rather than a rucksack! And by staying with us, you also have your own private luxury bathroom, right next to your accommodation - in this case, a giant Native American tipi, tepee or teepee, depending on how you want to spell it!
At Tipi Glamping Spain, we have designed the layout of our grounds with privacy in mind. There are just two tipis, far enough apart to give privacy to each set of guests, but not isolated. So if you're coming with friends or another family, you'll know that they're within easy reach for socialising.
Each tipi is equipped with a king size bed and two or three singles (depending on your party size), a chest of drawers and nightstands. There's plenty of room for a cot if required, for the little one in your family. There are also rugs, cushions and bean-bags in authentic Navajo designs, to make you comfortable if you feel like a siesta.
The emphasis at Tipi Glamping Spain is on eco-tourism. The whole site including our own house, is entirely solar and wind-turbine powered and most of our vegetables are home-grown. Around the grounds, you'll find a children's play area and an 8 x 4 metre swimming pool. Water for the pool is provided from our own spring, with a special filtration system so that there are no nasty chemicals to sting your eyes!
A large four-burner gas barbeque with an additional side-burner for your veggies, is provided for each set of guests, along with a picnic bench. A good selection of food and drink at low prices is available at the local supermarket, or for a greater selection, there is a Lidl store in Baza. You can therefore have an evening cook-out near your tipi or eat at a nearby restaurant - the choice is yours!
We serve a hearty continental breakfast each morning, with fresh croissants and pastries, toast, locally made preserves, cold cuts, boiled eggs, fresh juices, tea and coffee.
There are so many things to do, all within easy reach. Waterfalls, canyons, lakes, mountains and national parks surround us, along with quaint little villages, all well worth exploring. The Altiplano (high plain), is also a wonderful place for artist's holidays, as there so many beautiful and often, dramatic scenes to paint.
There is a good choice of airlines serving the general area of Andalucia. Flybe fly daily from Southampton and Exeter to Alicante (along with many other airlines from all over the UK), Ryanair fly to Almeria, British Airways fly from London City Airport to Granada (our nearest airport) and many more fly to Malaga, about 2 hours away.
If you're coming from the US, Canada or elsewhere in Europe, you'd fly to Madrid or London, then get a short connection to Granada City Airport. Just send us an email and we'll recommend the best route for you!
