Historia

Cleanwave.org was initiated as a response to the disturbing growing presence of plastic found throughout the Balearic Islands.

As the founders of Cleanwave.org, we became more and more conscious about the prolific presence of plastic in our lives. Not only in the packaging of our food, but also on every pristine beach, along remote mountain paths and in the sea.
And as summer temperatures rose, we found ourselves being dependent on the plastic water bottle industry to quench our thirst.
This realisation, that even our water - which is the source of all life - is being commercialised and packaged in plastic (a by product of petroleum with binding chemicals proved to be carcinogenic) was the catalyst to decide that it was time to make a change!

“I realised that we needed to create a new model. We live on an island – rich in natural beauty – and at that moment I realised that we needed to take responsibility and play our part in preserving the Balearic Islands,” explains Philipp Baier, Founder.

And so Cleanwave.org was started - a non-profit initiative founded in the Balearic Islands, which confronts the destructive impact of single-use plastic waste.

Cleanwave.org is a movement of likeminded individuals, businesses, restaurants and hotels who all recognise the urgent need to provide residents and tourists with sustainable alternatives to disposable plastic water bottle consumption and provide free access to safe drinking water.
