Historia

Bienvenido al CURM (Club Universitario de Rugby de Murcia). Nuestras andanzas comienzan hace más de 25 años compitiendo a nivel territorial en nuestra vecina Federación Valenciana al ser el único equipo de Rugby murciano. Tras varios años crecemos y nos colocamos como campeones territoriales para pasar a ser equipo de competencia Nacional, lo que ocupa la mayor parte de nuestra historia. Después de otros años, el CURM sigue creciendo hasta conseguir jugar en División de Honor B, llevando nuestro nombre a lo más alto del panorama rugbístico nacional. Pero tras dos temporadas, por motivos económicos el Club se ve obligado a descender a nivel territorial de golpe (esta vez formando parte de nuestra Federación Murciana). En esta competencia estamos unos pocos años hasta recuperarnos y volver a Nacional. Esta vez el equipo que nos representa es un grupo circunstancial, de transición, por lo que se vuelve a descender por tema deportivo. Mientras ocurrían estos hechos, paralelamente forjamos una de las mejores bases del rugby levantino, y la mejor sin duda del murciano, compitiendo en la Liga Valenciana y consiguiendo siempre llegar a fases finales (no había competición de bases en Murcia). Tras un corto paso por regional, por fin la gran cantera promocionan en su mayoría a senior y ascienden de nuevo a DH B en la temporada 2016/17 escribiendo la mejor trayectoria en la historia del rugby murciano (desde infantiles hasta senior un grupo de chicos consiguen llevar al CURM a DHB). Esa temporada, a pesar de tener un buen grupo y mejorar nuestra experiencia en esta categoría (hasta 4 victorias), volvemos a vernos obligados a descender por no tener apoyos. Actualmente jugamos en la 1ª Liga de nuestra Región, luchando por llevar a este Club al sitio que merece.

CURM, the oldest and most honoured club in the region of murcia.
The club's story begins some 20 years ago, when we were competing in the league of our neighbouring federation, Valencia. This was due to murcia not having its own league at this point in time and CURM being the only club to be playing at any sort of level.
Over several years, our club grew and, with CURM winning the valencian league, we were able to gain promotion to the Spanish liga de honor B, the second highest league in Spain. Here the club spent 2 years facing itself against some of the best teams in Spain, however, due to the subsequent financial crash, we were forced into relegation.
This was however, both a blessing and a curse as we were able to strongly aid in the making of murcian rugby federation, thereby allowing the sport to grow in our back garden. Over a period of transitional years, the club rose and fell from the local murcian region back into the higher leagues.
Currently the club plays in the 1st division territorial in murcia, where, we are proud to say we are represented by homegrown murcian players, many of whom play county and some even having the chance to play national rugby. This is such an achievement due to these players being local boys, with the majority having started playing with us from an early age.
This season just finished 2014/15, the club has enjoyed success on and off the field. We placed 2nd in the regional leagues and were able to win the CopaFermur, the local cup played for a let the end of the season. As well as this the club participates in 7s tournaments, and, in true rugby spirit these days are enjoyed with friends, beers and sunshine.
We always welcome new players of any nationality and experience, having had in the past season two English men and a french man play for us who we are delighted to call friends. We are a diverse team who speak Spanish obviously, but also french and English!
