Build on the foundations which have been inhabited by the Iberos since 300 B.C. where they lived of the agriculture. The name Castellet has been a conceptual name given by the villagers to the top street of the village San José, as it formed a fort and looked like a castle. It was a point where they could see the while Bahia of Altea and Albir and see enemies coming. The Muslims moved in to this area before Altea was built, and it says that Altea La Vella was the residence of a Caliph before they built Altea, whose church was originally a mosque.
