Historia

A small country hotel in Northern Grandada, Andalucia, Spain, El Geco Verde is situated just outside the lovely mountain village of Castril in an area known as the Altiplano de Granada. It is right on the doorstep of the well known Cazorla Natural Park and the slightly less famous (but equally stunning) Natural Park of Castril. There are four big lakes nearby, and for this reason the rather select band of Brits who already know it have labelled it ‘The Spanish Lake District’.

The area is fabulous for walking, mountain biking, climbing, bird watching, horse riding, fishing, canoeing … you name it; if it goes on in the Great Outdoors you can do it here, probably better, definitely with less people watching! There are authentic local guides for horse riding, canoeing and rock climbing, and very experienced English speaking guides for walking, mountain biking and village tours.

El Geco Verde offers high quality bed and breakfast accommodation, at very competitive prices, combined with a homely and friendly ambience. We also offer fixed menu meals, with vegetarian options, often featuring our own home grown produce or top quality meat, fruit and vegetables from local organic producers.

The hotel´s location is stunning, perched on top of a hill with a breathtaking view across a sweeping valley towards the distant Sierra Nevada. The setting can be equally well eenjoyed from the swimming pool, the picture window of the cosy living room or the sunny outside terrace.

We speak fluent English, Spanish (and Italian) and put our language skills at the service of our guests so that they can access the activities they enjoy with the minimum of fuss and at the best prices.
Our website aims to be the leading source of information about the Altiplano in English and we see it as part of our offering to provide all the information and resources guests may need to create the perfect bespoke holiday.

This year we have a dipping pool of 24 square metres (essential for cooling off in the heat of July and August). For the serious swimmers the local village pool is enormous and very picturesque.

Airports which serve this area are (in order of proximity) Granada, Almeria, Murcia, Alicante, Malaga.

We are very proud to say that our hotel is eco friendly. We have a large array of solar panels for hot water and electricity (plus back-up systems to ensure your comfort). Our food sources are mainly organic, much of it from our own kitchen garden or from nearby organic farms.

Our main aim is to make a success of our small hotel, popularise responsible tourism in the Altiplano de Granada and to move towards sustainable living, self sufficiency...

Productos

We offer spacious, individually styled bedrooms, all with ensuite facilities. Extra beds are also available for a small additional fee. The hotel can also be hired in its entirety, with six bedrooms and room for up to 17 people, with or without self catering facilities.
