The rooms are actually 2 hours to get out. One hour out is for the experts and anything longer is really helpful for family friendly groups or for introducing your kids to an escape room for the first time. Only downfall is the rooms were really warm, so maybe adding a fan in the rooms would be helpful.

We chose the haunted escape room and were jump scared multiple times, once by the actual room and a bunch by the staff knocking on the doors just to mess with us, it was hilarious. The clues weren’t too difficult, and we only needed a couple hints, especially for being complete newbies. The hints the staff gave were pretty helpful and self explanatory, but not too revealing, they definitely pointed us in the right direction which kept us going. The only complaints I would have is that we booked a room a week in advance but they couldn’t find it, luckily we still got into that same room. Also if we were going for time, I would be a bit upset that the Alexa we were supposed to ask a question to didn’t work. We eventually asked for a hint to which the staff politely fixed it for us, however this did cost us about ten minutes of trying to figure out what to do. Overall my friend group had a ton of fun and definitely has some new inside jokes we will reference. They had nice staff and I would definitely recommend to any teens who want to have a fun time.

We have done many ERs before with different companies all over the country, and moving a heavy piece of furniture has never been part of solving a room. Not only was it not light, but metal brackets on the floor made it so that you couldn't easily slide it either. If there were only kids in the room I could see it being a great room for a young group, it's questionable whether they could even do it, let alone do it safely. I'm sure they haven't had any accidents yet, but it seems like one waiting to happen. Along the same line, another part of the room is very dark, and the floor is littered with objects that aren't fixed in place. Trying not to give anything away, rolling objects that could easily be slid, turned, twisted, etc. on the floor are a tripping hazard if nothing else. Combined with the darkness, you get the wrong group in there at the wrong time, it's not hard to imagine a fall. We had kids with us, and it almost happened at least once. I was very encouraged by the lobby; the facility looks great, so we had high hopes for a professional, quality experience. But the problems with the staff and the room itself have made Black Hills Escape Rooms something we cannot recommend. Even our 7 and 9 year olds were disappointed by the end of it ... and they love ANY escape room. :/
