Jardines preciosos

Such a pity...... we didn't heed (or read) the reviews before we visited in October. As avid gardeners both here in Spain and back in the UK when we lived there, we thought going to these gardens would be a nice trip out for friends visiting us who are also keen on gardening and visiting gardens. We had been to the L' Albarda gardens in La Sella on their previous visit last November and they and us were impressed at the gardens and planting. From that experience we know gardens can look nice, tidy and colourful, so looked forward to our visit to these gardens. Having looked at the website and pictures all looked good........maybe they were old pictures? We got to the gardens at around one o'clock and our first impression was how nice the walk ways to the house were with meandering pathways and places to sit in the shade. We paid our three euros each and decided before walking around we would have a coffee....2€ per cup. After a short rest we started our meander around the gardens having had explained to us which part of the gardens were what....sage garden and the lavender garden. Our journey began in the sage garden, or as we have now renamed it...the weed garden! There were nice areas to sit and admire the weeds, which we did for a short time as we felt from what we had seen our journey around the gardens would not take long. After our short stop we again proceeded along the pathways through various arbours to the lavender part of the garden. Unfortunately the lavenders had been trimmed down to small stumps. I can only assume this was done to harvest the oils etc but it left nothing for us to admire or smell. I have lavenders in my own garden which are a delight, even at this time of year, not the disappointment of these. The ponds etc around the gardens had been drained so there wasn't even those to admire. After we all expressed our disappointment to each other about why in the winter season they just did advertise their food and cafe instead of making a point about the lavender we don't know. One lady who seem to be staff did say it was down to being a dry summer and then gave us another excuse about rabbits eating everything they planted. Left disappointed. Maybe to return again, but I think not.

Awful. I thought gardens were supposed to have plants! Just wandered around and have to say it was a waste of time. Very dry, water features drained, loads of weeds, dead plants. OK not the time to visit for things to be in full flower, but plants (other than established trees) alive would have been nice. The mistake we made was going by the photos here on Google, was probably a nice garden once upon a time!
