The Cuixart Foundation

Historia

The Cuixart Foundation is a private non-profit organization located in Palafrugell and founded in 1998 by Modest Cuixart i Tàpies.It was set up to divulge the artistic career of the pintor and to protect its work. Over time, it has become a cultural organization that protects this heritage and that promotes contemporary Catalan art at an international level, as well as gives to the new artists a projection and organizes activities related to art, culture and teaching in order to form the new generations, sensitizing them and having intellectual tools to appreciate modern art and its heritage wherever they go.In addition, the Cuixart Foundation takes care of the modernist house where Modest Cuixart lived from the 70's and the painter's workshop as part of the cultural heritage of the entity.In 2007 the entity temporarily ceased its public tasks due to respect for the death of the painter. However, currently the entity works in collaboration with the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Town Hall of Palafrugell in different educational and cultural projects.Cuixart's studioThe foundation has preserved the painter's studio carefully preserving the tools and environment in which Modest Cuixart carried out his creative process.This workshop, called Taller Victoria, was designed in 1984 by its son, Marc Cuixart, an architect and professor. The creative process of Cuixart was very intense and spent days closed at the workshop submerged in his cognitive and creative dream, That's why an attic was adapted with a bed to rest. The foundation currently exhibits a selection of works by the artist, especially from the informalist period that he lived in Paris and the last stage.Modest Cuixart, made a total of 4000 works from the year 1941 until 2007.
